A chance to own a Motor Boat of the Year 2010 Finalist
Boatshed Dartmouth are delighted to offer for sale the Van de Stadt designed ‘Admirals Tender’ that was the finalist in the Motor Boat of the Year Awards 2010 (Traditional and Retro category). The Admirals Launch is perfect for anyone looking for a classic boat with retro design without all the maintenance of an old classic wooden boat. What you get is still the great looks, lots of teak decks but all the advantages of a GRP hull and the latest engine technology. But unlike some classic boats of old this one is no slouch. There is a conventional shaft drive and three bladed propeller coupled with a semi displacement hull and a 110hp Yanmar engine will whip her along at a swift 20+ knots.
This boat is all about luxury though and although she is referred to as a day cruiser is equipped with a useful forepeak cabin and a galley in the cockpit. To call the cockpit on the Admirals Tender a cockpit does her a disservice since it quite simply is huge. I’ve seen it referred to as a lounge cockpit and that most certainly sums it up much better. This Admirals Tender has been licensed by the local authority to carry nine passengers and one crew member so it’s easy to appreciate just how spacious she is.
Nice touches like pop-up midships cleats, eyelets in the toerails for fender lanyards and a pop up navigation lights on the stemhead all show the attention to detail.
What did Motor Boat Monthly like about this Admirals Tender? Well the elegant lines and the massive cockpit and I can agree with those plus points. What didn’t they like? In their trial they found spray can sneak up the sides at higher speeds. I see the Admirals Tender moored gracefully at Henley Regatta with a party enjoying some fine racing in comfort and style. I don’t think there’ll be much problem with water spray there – more likely champagne spray…
