Know Your Local Lifeboat Station

The Boatshed Plymouth area covers the River Yealm in the east to the Tamar River Estuary in the west including Torpoint, Saltash, up to Bere Alston and Calstock.

Our nearest local Lifeboat Station within that area is right here in the heart of Plymouth, Britiain's Ocean City. It is based in Millbay Maritime Village, Millbay Docks, and provides cover 24 hours per day, 365 days per year to the port of Plymouth and the surrounding coastline & rivers including the Yealm, Erme, Tamar, Tavy, Plym & Lynher.

The Plymouth Lifeboat Station has two boats, an All Weather Lifeboat called Sybil Mullen Glover and a smaller faster Inshore Lifeboat called Millennium Forester. They are used to attend a large number & variety of incidents throughout the year, regardless of weather and sea conditions. The station is run by local volunteers and is part of the RNLI which is entirely funded by donations.

There are many ways to support your local lifeboat station including (i) becoming a member of the RNLI (ii) making a donation on their website (iii) buying nautical merchandise from an RNLI shop - our nearest RNLI shop can be found down on the Barbican and is again run by volunteers.
