How Dry Stack Berthing Works
Dry stack berthing is a safe, secure and cost-effective way to berth your boat with significant cost advantages compared to traditional water berthing.
Yacht Haven Quay houses over 200 boats with customers allowed unlimited launching, on two hours’ notice, all-year round. The sheltered environment protects your boat and hull from general wear and tear, so you do not need to change anodes or antifoul as often.
Here is how dry stack berthing works:
- Your boat is stored in a custom racking system
- When you would like to go out on your boat, simply call or text the Haven Team who will launch your boat ready for your arrival
- When you arrive, your boat will be on the pontoon so you can step on board and go
- On return, simply leave your boat tied alongside one of their pontoons
- The Haven Team will lift your boat, wash her off and return her to the dry stack. They can even refuel your boat for you.
“It is a unique method of storage. There is no hassle, your boat is 100 per cent safe and it is based in a beautiful location in the south west. There is even a great café and a fascinating Dive Museum. What more could you possibly want?” – Monty Halls, TV broadcaster, Explorer and Adventurer

A: Our Dry Stack can accommodate motor cruisers, sports boats, RIBs and fast fishers from 13ft to 36ft in length. Our boatyard caters for all types of sail or motor vessels up to 45ft
Q: What happens if I return to my berth after hours?
A: Not a problem. Just tie up on our pontoons and we will lift and wash your boat the following morning.
Q: What if I want to head out on the water for sunrise?
A: We like your thinking! Just give us a call or text the night before and we will launch your boat the day before. When you arrive at the crack of dawn, your boat will be on the pontoon ready to go.
Q: Can I work on my boat in the rack?
A: You cannot work on your boat in the dry stack, but we have a ‘tinkering rack’ outdoors where you hall have access to water and electric. Once your work is done, we will simply return the boat to the dry stack.
Q: What if I want to leave my boat afloat?
A: As a berth holder at Yacht Haven Quay Plymouth, you will receive seven days free berthing at our sister-site Plymouth Yacht Haven. It is just a couple of minutes downstream.
WHAT ELSE?
Make sure you drop by Ray’s Plaice. The famous Dive Museum, located next door to the Marina Office, is a lifetime’s treasure trove collected by former Royal Marine and commercial diver Ray Ives.
As well as having a wealth of diving knowledge from decades of diving around the world, Ray’s collection of artefacts is something to behold with countless rare and historical items dating back centuries.
Also, do not forget to try out the Mess Room Café. The eco-friendly café is at the heart of the marina with a first floor terrace offering panoramic views over the water. As well as fresh food cooked daily, the café is full of personality with furniture and features upcycled from around the marina.
Several of the team are qualified RYA instructors, so as well as offering new customers a free half-day tuition in local pilotage or boat handling, they run regular excursions along the fantastic local coast to various stunning locations and host regular and fiercely contested fishing contests.
