Classic boat for sale - A piece of history for sale.
Just after the end of World War II the White Fish Authority were keen to re-start the cockle fishing industry. They designed and commissioned the building of 100 decked fishing boats with small aft wheel house, capable of collecting up to 6 tons of cockles. These vessels were made of mahogany planking on heavy steamed oak timbers by shipwrights at the Dauntless Boat Building Company at Canvey Island in Essex.
We do not know how many of these vessels still exist, but this one Click here for details was the last one ever built in 1950. It is thought that she was originally sailed in the Morecombe Bay area collecting the cockles. The first owner sold her on to a Mr Brown in 1958 who lived aboard until 1967 when the current owner purchased her.
Over the past forty-five years the family have made many changes, alterations and improvements to the original design. She is now a ketch rigged Motor Yacht with two diesel engines and comfortable accommodation for cruising. In the current ownership she has provided many safe passages across the English Channel to Brittany, the Scilly Isles, the Channel Islands and along the Devon and Cornish coastline.
Due to the owners declining health, the vessel has not been as well maintained as before and now she needs a new owner to love and restore her to her former glory. Boatshed Plymouth are proud to be able to offer this remarkable little ship, this piece of English maritime history, for sale.
