Sometimes, I come to the conclusion you just get too many emails. Anyhow, whilst poring through Friday’s delivery of the odd two or three hundred emails in my inbox, I noticed one titled Rib Raid; nothing to do with technical redundancy on servers. When I opened it, I found it was an invitation to go and join the guys at Boatshed, Hamble for a brief soiree around the Solent.

For us the beginning of June means boat insurance day. It’s the sailing season, we normally have loads of other things on our minds and this year the weather was glorious but in contrast to previous years where I’ve just called up credit card at the ready and renewed with our existing insurers I took the time to look into our policy and realised we weren’t correctly covered so I had to do a quick bit of research and found out an awful lot about boat insurance in a short space of time.

Boatshed Dartmouth are delighted to offer for sale the Van de Stadt designed ‘Admirals Tender’ that was the finalist in the Motor Boat of the Year Awards 2010 (Traditional and Retro category). The Admirals Launch is perfect for anyone looking for a classic boat with retro design without all the maintenance of an old classic wooden boat. What you get is still the great looks, lots of teak decks but all the advantages of a GRP hull and the latest engine technology. But unlike some classic boats of old this one is no slouch. There is a conventional shaft drive and three bladed propeller coupled with a semi displacement hull and a 110hp Yanmar engine will whip her along at a swift 20+ knots.
The array of electronic goodies and gadgets available for boats is mind blowing and the advertising for them seems to insist you’d be foolish to venture out without all of them so Boatshed Plymouth called by “Just Right” one of this year’s Jester Challenge entrants to see what electronics Gus Davidson will be using to get him and his 20’ Golant Gaffer safely across the pond. Gus has a keen eye on the budget as he’s raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support so he weighs the cost of each piece of equipment carefully to ensure as much money as possible goes to the charity.
